Our weekend with Shawn

When we get home daily, Aiko would greet us excitedly and runs out of the house and circles around us. While Shawn is outside the door he would say, "Aiko, out" while I would say, "Aiko, in". In and out concept is just not there yet.

Yesterday, YT also read the Big Potty Book for Boys. Somewhat Shawn got it into his head for half a day. Half an hour after he read the book, while playing in the playyard, Shawn said, "Chou chou" and squated down to poo. Then we said, "Ok, since Henry (the character in the book) has dirty diaper, he has to change his diaper, and so do you." He didn't object violently. He brought his drawing board along from the study room to our bedroom for diaper change. I told him Xiao Ting Tang (Doraemon) is on the TV. Yes indeed, there was the cartoon. Shawn echoed and said "See Xiao Tang Tang". All's well. An hour or two later, he said he "Putt putt". So I thought he pooed or farted, I checked his diaper and there was nothing. No pee yet and diaper was clean. Then I went to wash my hand. When I came out, I saw him unfastening the diaper, then I realised he peed - coz he was just wearing a t-shirt and diapers with no shorts on... hehehee... So anyway, it was during the interval when I went to wash my hand that he peed. So I praised him for telling me that he was going to pee and sorry that I had missed it.. As for the rest of the day, we didn't hear him saying chou or putt. He probably had forgotten everything after his midday nap. :)

He was busy scratching a mosquito bite on his leg when we had the chance to teach him itchy. He immediately got it. Later part of the day, he also used the word when he was scratching his back.

YT showed Shawn pictures of Earth and moon. When he first saw Earth, he went "Sky". The father corrected the son and re-emphasized which is earth and which is moon; why is earth bluish while the moon is whitish gray. So the little one got it right at the end of repetitive conversation between the 2 parties. I wonder if he remembers it today.

Yesterday we had a little rain shower in the east, Shawn went "Raining, auntie brea brea" - I supposed he meant it's raining therefore auntie holds umbrella. When the rain stopped, he went "No more raining, sun, moon!" - The rain has stopped so there is sun and moon (on a bright Sunday afternoon). So we had to correct him to say the moon only comes out at night.

My mum bought some very sweet Indonesian potato and steamed for afternoon snack. Shawn called for 2nd serving of "Toto" as he loved it so much!

This morning, Shawn saw picture of a lemon, and he went "Yam". I said, "No, that is a lemon". And he went on a draggy tone wanting to correct me to say it's "Yaaaaaaaaammm"; just as he calls a lime "Yaaaaaaaaammm"

As for sleep training, I tried walking out after lights off, on Saturday and Sunday night. Shawn must have been so worn out and he has no energy to call for "PAT!!!". I fed him milk, and reminded him that I am going to switch of the TV, the lights and Shawn is a big boy and would fall asleep on his own. It's the same to fall asleep with any method (as he always say "Papa Pat, Mommie Pat , same"). So for 10-15minutes of endless one way nagging from me about falling asleep by himself, I said good night, switched off the lights and walked out with the empty milk cup. My mum asked for the 2nights, if he had slept. I said no, I just walked out. Heheeee... We checked on him after 20min of silence. Sat night he sleep on his back, arms wide spread. Last night he slept hugging a bolster but he woke up at 3am crying, asking me to pat. He probably went back to sleep after tossing around for 30min but woke up only at almost 8am.... I'll try again tonight and see if the school has tire him that he could just zzz on his own. Wish me luck!
