Sleeping late ar...

Last weekend while we were at Popular he saw Ben10 comics and asked YT what was in the speech bubblse and asked the father to read. So it becomes a carrot which we dangle for him to get motivated to recognize words. So we started off Peter and Jane - Key Words book with Shawn recently. I bought the series a year ago, did read to him 1a before BUT that was donkey months ago and got to nowhere. To Shawn his aim is to be able to read Ben10 comics (quite far off for the time being) and we are trying again to read this series to him. It does take us a lot of effort and coaxing to switch off the tv, get the book on the lap and his finger pointing to read. So it's repetitive and drilling for him to recognize words.  And sometimes just frustrating when he does not pay attention or he just drift to talk about other things or decides not to read.

There are 16words in the book. Before we started 1a last weekend, we tested and he could recognize these words : the, dog and ball. So since last weekend till today, we read daily about 15min or so to run thru all the pages which has 16words used repeatedly in the book. I guess he should be able to recognize ~8words consistently. Those he doesn't know or unsure, I think he tikam tikam make up the sentence on the page, while looking at the picture. Tonight YT decided to introduce some additional words i.e. Ben10 and Jetray, for starters. I'm quite sure Shawn would be more interested recognizing Ben10 and Jetray than the words in Peter and Jane series. Bleah...

He slept late these 2days at about 10.30pm but it just took him about 5min to knock out after 'working so hard' in the night. Past 2 nights, after reading he asked to craft. I need to google more to search for ideas from various sites to craft with him. It is good since he loves crafting, coloring, pasting and whatnots. Even if I send him off to bed at 9.45pm, he would probably toss and turn for at least 1/2hr before sleeping. Plus to me it's not too bad since for the past 2 nights Dylan didn't exhaust my energy a while putting him to bed. It just extra time spent with Shawn nightly at the table for mini projects daily.
