Kids@Work 12June09

It was Kids@Work last Friday. I brought Shawn in the morning. The moment he stepped into the lift, he grind his teeth (When I asked Dr Khor why was it the case, she said it's due to anxiety). He came into my office, behaving shy and not so friendly. But when someone plays with him, he was all right. He sat on the cabinets watching the planes take off and touching down. Then I sent him to school so that I could work. Then I picked him up later in the afternoon. He came in my office and soon he became obssessed with the brolly. I had problems asking him to part with the brolly. He was walking around the office (even to the less friendly colleagues who do not seem to like kids very much). I had to drag him away because I was feeling a little embarrased that he was disturbing them. He was totally NOT willing to the carried and NOT willing to part with the brolly. When I had to leave, I was terribly terrified how he would react when I had to whisked him up. My nightmare came true. He was screaming away and crying when I carried him up and took the brolly away from him (talking nice certainly didn't help at all!). Some GBS people were rising up from their seats like merkats from their hiding holes. He was not just loud, he was wriggling and kicking protesting; in the lift all the way to ground floor. He only calmed down when we got into the taxi. So anyway, I learn to accept the fact that I have to put on a super thick face anywhere including my daily work place. UGGGGGHHHH!!! So embarrasing!
