This morning when I woke up the 1st thing I reminded Shawn was that we are going to the new school today. He had his milk and drawing while I chopped up the radish to make soup. Then I sat down and reminded him again that we ARE going to the new school. Then we changed and there we went to the new school. When the admin was checking his temperature and mouth he sat there quietly and let her do the work. Then we sat down on a bench while waiting for someone to bring us in. While waiting he said, "Mum mum". He was ok seeing other kids in uniform heading into the centre. As we went in there were some kids crying while parting with their parents. I was worried that he would just breakdown as well. I just reminded him it's ok, just school and this is new school which you would be coming in everyday. Then one Indian teacher introduced herself as Tr. Siena who is incharged of Shawn's class. She brought Shawn to the bathroom to wash his hands, he just followed suit. Then she sat him down on the mini chair/table while they gave a mix of cornflakes and Coco crunch with Marigold milk. The serving is probably 2tablespoon of the cereals. Shawn asked to top up twice. I asked him to go to the teachers to ask for top up. He walked over and handed them the cup while they topped it up for him. After he finished I told him other kids put the cup into the basin. So he walked over blurly and looked into the basin while the teacher guided him to put the cup inside. Then he followed Tr. Elaine to the assembly area. They had half an hour of book reading and singing session with all other kids. Shawn was seated down on the floor and was busy looking and clapping at the wrong time. But he seemed excited then. He did look around for me and kept his eyes on me on and off.
After 1/2hour assembling at the common room, they all breakout to their own cluster. Shawn and HoSang are in the same group but they ignored each other. No hugs and kisses whatsoever, they probably had forgotten each others' existence :) At 9.45am, during the break to drink water, I saw him poke another girl's nose. I wasn't sure what caused him to do so but he got scolding from the teacher who saw that happen. After awhile, Shawn started to tear and seemed to be aware that he is confined to the playgroup area. He didn't wail or anything. So one of the teachers comforted him but the tears just came rolling when he saw me standing outside. After about 15minutes, they came out of the confined area and sat on the floor to wait for their turn to be called out to take their shoes. Tr. took him to the pigeon hole and he got hold of his shoes and went back in and sat down on the floor with other kids. Then they went to the bicycle park behind the church and wore their shoes. They have a cemented outdoor area for the kids to play with cars, bicycles and scooters. Shawn sat in a Playskool car and the teacher pushed him around. He was so happy laughing away. That's when I sneaked out and left for work. It's about 10.15am then.
At noon, I called the school and spoke to the admin, she said he's doing fine. Then I called again at 1plus and spoke to Tr. Siena. She said that he was coping well, no tears after I left. He just followed what other kids do. During lunch at 11am, he had beehoon soup today and a banana. After bath, they had milk (that was about 1pm). I just hope he would treat me nice when I pick him up and he would still treat me nice when we get home. Don't want to get an earful from him for leaving him in the New school ALONE!!!! :)
